October 26-29, 2015
The Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture and Lifeways
Mt. Pleasant, Michigan
Miigwech! Pinagigi! Waewaenen! Yaw^ko!
Thank you for registering for Convening Great Lakes Culture Keepers, a regional networking and professional development institute for tribal librarians, archivists, and museum curators! From October 26-29, we will gather at the award-winning Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture and Lifeways for classes, workshops, group planning sessions, tours, meals, and cultural events.
Theme: The Strength in Our Stories
In May 2015, UW-Madison SLIS received an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant to continue professional development gatherings for Great Lakes tribal librarians, archivist, and museum curators. But this time our gatherings will aim to do more. Over the next three years, we’ll be working together to develop a traveling exhibition. We’ll start by thinking about our audience and outcomes and narrowing down possible exhibition themes. In other words, we’ll look for stories we can tell together and discuss how they can change the world around us. Like the title of Miranda Belarde-Lewis’ keynote, we’ll look for The Strength in Our Stories.

It could be anything from wild rice to a bibliography you created. The items will be used throughout the conference in classes, put on display, and then given away when the institute ends.
